Hello everyone I came across this forum this morning and noticed all the wonderful information. I am planning on getting a purebred German Shepherd in 2012. I have a German Shep/Husky his name is Smokey. He is the greatest dog ever and I owe my life to him. Ever since I can remember and even more so when I got Smokey 13 years ago I wanted a purebred German Shep. That's pretty much all I see in him is Shepherd, besides his looks and he is smaller 53lbs. I want to learn any and everything about German Shepherds that's why I am trying to learn everything now. I did great with Smokey and I am confident I can do amazing with my dream breed of dog. I will be moving to MO next year, so thats where I am looking for places to get a Shepherd. I know I want a purebred,puppy that will be a big male, the traditional tan and black with maybe a medium blanket, affectionate, great guard dog.I am more than excited to get him. I also have 4 guinea pigs that I adore and so does Smokey, he likes to protect them and not let strangers near them. Here are some pictures of my Husky/Shep 13 years old. You will notice in some pictures he is favoring his left leg. He has bad arthritis in his left elbow and is just got his 1st Adequin shot 1 week ago.

He also knows to roll over and to cross his 2 front paws when laying down. I forgot to have him do them. Can you believe he is 13?

Thank you. Yes, he is so spoiled now. I feel bad though, because I was younger when my mom and I picked him out and my dad just bought the cheapest food (Ol' Roy) and Smokey never got squeak toys or bones when he was a pup. When he got bigger I moved frommy dads and Smokey stayed there then I moved Smokey with me for a year, but my mom didn't want him there any more, then for a few years he went back with dad. He has had Ol; Roy pretty much his whole life except for the past 3 years when I moved to Wi and he lives with me and will forever now. I had him on Active care, the switched to Chicken soup for the Senior dogs soul, now he is on EVO red meat with some EVO salmon and herring to. He eats a lot more now then he ever has even when he was a pup he never ate much. He gets tip top care now.

Good job taking care of him!! You sound like a great dog owner, I'm sure you'll do just as great a job with your gsd when you get one. Keep up the good work

Good for you! My niece started out as a vet tech in an animal clinic and now she's an RT and runs the infirmary at the zoo in our city. Great pictures of your furry family

Smokey is adorable!

I grew up with my mom's German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix, she is 12 now and she is a great dog.

I love my mom's dog so much that when I was looking for another purebred GSD like my boy, I saw an ad on Craigslist for a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix and I just had to meet him and I ended up taking him home and he is a great dog and he is very similar to my mom's dog.

I love this mix!
