Default Newbie looking for breeder referrals in CA

Hi. I'm new to the GSD breed so please forgive me as I am just getting to know them. I'm looking for a reputable breeder in the northern California area (we live in San Jose). It's hard to know the reputable ones from the bad ones just by looking at their websites so that's why I'm reaching out to anybody on this forum! What I do know is that I like the black/red color dogs and I don't like the severe angulation. I want an intelligent, highly trainable and even tempered dog, one whom I can trust with my two kids (15 and 11yrs). If I am understanding this right, I like the look of the working line with the milder temperment of a show line? Any help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to getting the right GSD soon!

and I second Kim, don't know her personally, just from the boards, but I would never refuse one of her rookie puppies))

Randy Tyson without hesitation. Know her, know her dogs. She is one of the few breeders that has a true breeding programs in the states. Multiple generations, extensive training, eval and competing - both working and show.

She was my main support when I got a dog from another breeder (no support).

Wow! Randy's pretty popular around here! I finally got in touch with her and we will be talking more next week. Hopefully we'll find the right pup soon -- my daughter's been waiting for one for 5 years! Thanks for all of your input!
