I would recommend that you keep an eye with him with the foam. I assume that you are going to use as a bed in the crate??? Our dog like to rip it up and we were afraid that he would try to eat it.

Yeah I hope he doesn't do that....I wanted him to have something soft to sleep on...Hopefully they can tell me more about how old he is tommarow...I know you probably can't tell by the pictures...

grats on your doggie. All four of mine are PB dog pound beasties, and I am always baffled as to why anyone would want to give them away. GSD's are lovers, drama babies and talking machines. My experience with a petsmart trainer has been outstanding. The rule however, is that you can have the greatest trainer in the world and it doesn't make a difference if you don't do the training after hours.

Okay, I brought Zeus home yesterday from the pound...The vet says he is about a year and half old....He seems to be a really friendly dog...The only complaint (s) so far is He barks and barks when he's in his crate at bedtime...and He doesn't wanna go outside by himself to go potty ( we have a fenced back yard) and he constantly will jump on the door trying to get back in if your not out there with him...Help!!!

the not going out by himself, TOTALLY normal,,these german shepherds are velcro dogs, and I find the boys are REALLY velcro..So, go with him) He could also be a little uncertain as to why he's by himself in a new place that he's unfamiliar with..

Barking in the crate, also normal,,where do you have the crate set up? again, they like to be with their people, so I suggest putting the crate in your bedroom at nite.
Give him something safe to gnaw on in his crate, start feeding him his meals IN his crate so he associates the crate with "good" things..

Ok I can't seem to find a picture of this new boy,,and I wanna see him !!!

Bella used to do that too when I left her out. She LOVES to be outside by her self now. I think its because every thing is new. New house, new yard, new mom and dad, new TINY sibling its a VERY big ajustment. Give him time to bond and get used to everything. He will probably start to explore the yard soon. Curiosoty will get the better of him and he will check the perimiter in no time. Can't really help with the crate. Bella has always been good in hers never a problem and she had never been in one before I got her. Maybe because I put a fresh cow leg bone in with her to keep her intersted. . Good luck.

We had a similar problem with Brutus jumping on the patio door. Our trainer recommended "aqua therapy." which is basically giving the no command and a spray bottle or water in a small cup. He learned not to do it, mostly.

Brutus hated his crate with a passion. The first week we had him he busted out!! We came home after going out for dinner to be greeted at the door by our puppy. Lol. The trick for us was to give the command for kennel and give him a treat.
