Old dog new tricks (adopted 9 yr old pulling!)

Hi guys, we adopted our 9yr old bronson less than a week ago.
Hes had no obedience training whatsoever but is picking things up fast, the main area we're having problems with is walking on the leash.
He is basically all over the place, going from left to right, lunging, pulling etc.
He is incredibly strong so is hard to control.
He has already picked up the sit and stay command so is a fairly quick learner.
He gets very distracted by other dogs in particular, hes not aggressive at all just very curious but he makes lunges at them and pulls in their direction.
Any tips ??

Good for you for adopting a 9 yr old!

Think I'd look into getting a Gentle Leader Harness while you work thru this.
