Default Need help with "drop it"

I have leave it down pretty well, now I am working on drop it. I tried the method from a video MaggieLee recently posted (where you say Drop it and drop treats on the ground). I did that for most of the week, and he still wasn't conditioned to look at the ground when I said "drop it." What am I doing wrong?

I can get him to successfully drop his toys if I say "Drop it" and then I drop some kibble. Should I keep working on it that way?

if he's not 'seeing' the treats your exchanging for him on the floor, hold one right in front of his face tell him to 'drop' whatever he has in his mouth, pop him the treat

perhaps a higher "value" treat would get more response.
Kibble is very low value, but something like a piece of hot dog, or a piece of chicken may generate more interest and a better response.
