We took our 9 month old to play sheep herding at Ewe-topia in Roy, WA.
She did a few of the instinct tests, she had a good ol' time, did quite good with the sheep. She needed lots of reassurance that it was ok to chase/herd the sheep, as we are always telling her to leave our cats and outside animals alone. I liked how she just chased the sheep, but never tried to bite or hurt them. Some other german shepherds wanted to almost kill the sheep, seemed quite angry at them, the trainers kept them in place though. Roy, WA is near Seattle in Pierce County if anyone else is interested. They had a 6 acre off leash dog park too, our dog loved that more than anything. Never seen so many GSDs, some were huge and amazing looking. Here is a short video, 40MB. Video LINK and a few pix LINK here.

I love that place. Our guy loved it as well and slept all day after just a short session there. Nothing better than a tired puppy!
Last time we were there, he tried to "floss" the sheep and took quite a bit of hair out of them! Our guys is 2 years old now and we haven't been in awhile, but let me know next time you go on a weekend and I'll meet you there. |

I saw a few other dogs with wool fur in their mouths. Some of the monster sized GSD liked doing that, they were the ones that belonged to a breeder, didn't live in a home.
My wife wants to get some sheep now, we will take ours down that way again soon. Always looking for play buddies for our dog, to come and run around on our land, or in the back country. |
