Default Rocky and I want to learn to herd

How do I search for a group? Just google herding or GSD herding? I need someone to teach me. I have a small herd of goats and he is definatlty interested.

IF you look on the ASCA site, (australian shepherd club of america),they should have listings of herding events and such in your area..they are BIG into herding, you could possibly get some contacts there.

Stosh here on the board I believe is in texas and doing some herding, not sure if she is near you, but search her out..

Is it Rocky that is interested in herding?? I see in your sig, he's about 8 months old??

Get a harness, put him on a long line and get on in there with those goats) Sometimes that's all it takes for you to see herding instinct 'kick' in..of course don't let him get 'nasty with the goats..but may give you an idea of whether he's interested in herding them or eating them)

We have gone in there twice! It's fun to watch. He has learned to keep his distance because the nannies won't put up with too much. They have butted his noggin twice and rolled him once ,but he does work around them and keep them bunched somewhat. The long line gets so tangled in the mesquites trees though I have no clue how to teach him though so I will check out the ASCA site and Stosh too. Thanks!

every week I get awesome fresh unpasteurized goats milk and whey (for the dogs **)from a dairy goat herd keeper , and my friend has a hobby farm of meat goats that his wife tends to from spring to early winter (like - this week was their last go at it) and then the herd is turned over to a local farmer. Both families own GSD -- goats herd ? I was told that goats scatter or resists and butt .

Maybe you want to check into this small hobby herd forum BackYardHerds Forum / Goat "herding"?
