GSDCA Herding at Nationals?

Do you have to qualify for Nationals or can anyone enter?

I believe that's correct. And for most of the things it can be your first trial ever!

Anyone can enter. It is herding trial like any other...as is the tracking, obedience, agility and conformation show

Does anyone know which classes tend to be the most competitive? Am I correct to assume that the Started classes are probably larger and the Intermediate and Advanced less so? Thanks again

I would say that they are all competitive. Some of the best dogs and trainers will be there.
