I drove out to the breeder's place today to take some photos of her puppy obedience class, and there just happens to be a herding trainer next door, so we got our first herding lesson!
At first, Vinca thought she was supposed to heel under distraction. It took a while, but all of a sudden a lightbulb went on when she realized she was being allowed--nay, encouraged--to chase the sheep! After that she had a grand time herding, and I learned a lot too.

Yeah, it took what seemed like forever for the light bulb to go on, but once it did, she was like magic. I'm going to try and see if there are herding classes in my area.

Oh what fun!!!
Stark and I are hooked! We start formal classes next weekend and I can't wait! I think down the line, once I get a new pup for schH, I will "retire" Stark from training in schutzhund (just not really his thing) and concentrate on herding with him.
