There was a guy who drove up from Baltimore, MD for the test. Heck, I felt guilty about my 45 min drive She's having an AKC Herding Temperament Test in July that we may attend (if I remember in time). http://www.raspberryridgesheepfarm.com/events.aspx

the tests I've taken, with my gsd's, never did the outside fence , we just went in with the instructor and a long line..

Now with my aussies, yes, we did the outside the fence first, and then went in..
never really thought about 'why' it was different intro with different breeds

And don't feel bad, I usually look the exact same, I'm to worried the dog is going to take a chomp out of a sheep butt LOL..AND watching out those darn sheep don't plow me over !

It's really cool to watch them kick into herding mode espec when they've never really been on sheep before..And those sheep poopies are just the biggest treat LOL

She's not my girl & I'm so proud of her! Good girl

It was very interesting to watch the process from beginning to end and her reaction.

It really was interesting. Was there a prerequisite to the test?

What the test was looking for was instinct for turning the heads of the sheep. By using the larger flock behind the fence it forced the sheep closer to the fence to increase the draw of the sheep for the dog.

Glory seemed to be mostly chasing the sheep -- but with a soft dog with a strong handler attachment you need to do some of that to show the dog that they can leave the handler. Glory may be better suited for "A" course work rather than "C" course. You should go the trial in July without a dog to see the different working styles.

Raspberry Ridge is a great place to train or trial. I have driven out there 3 times for trials from St. Louis.

Great job Glory!! She's obviously got the bug for it now! I looked just as clueless the first time too. Stosh and I are working in the fence with the sheep- he's on a long lead while I figure out how close he can get without flipping from 'herding' to 'chasing' [work as opposed to fun]. Hopefully next week we'll all be outside the pen, off of the lead with the sheep inside so he can move them without having full access to them. He's so driven and excited and wants to work so aggressively that the trainer is concerned about him taking one down. It's so much fun!
