back from first herding experience!
I met the trainer today, and he met stauba to see if she would be good to work with in herding. I was honestly expecting her to try and eat the sheep lol! She did great. She was very nervous around the new smells, but calmed down quickly. My trainer said her good characteristics were that she always had attention on the sheep, but that he was able to break her attention and get a focus on him when he wanted it, and of course, she did not charge the sheep at all. He said that she listens very well (made me feel proud since i've done all my own obedience work with her!), even with the excitement of the sheep! I was also surprised at how well she listened to him, a stranger. He kept her on leash and brought her around the sheep, had her hold, then had her move them a couple times, and had me try it. The trainer also had a beautiful Australian shepherd named Tugboat. He was amazing. I've never seen a dog listen so well in person (only on tv, exc), even from so far off. Tugboat was such a great herder!! Amazingly, stauba did not get reactive on her leash with him either! She liked him i guess :-). This experience was very exciting and i cant wait to start our real training, i have a feeling i will love this!!!
