KC had received her HCT through AHBA so I am pretty familiar with the AHBA. I would like to get the herding tests (AHBA and/or AKC)on all of the Shepherd Paq this year providing the seniors health holds out. I found a trial fairly local that will have AKC tests offered and was wondering if there are any significant differences between the AKC/AHBA.

The HT (first AKC test) is two legs and you have to lead the stock back and forth between two cones and show a stop. We never did the HCT, but I believe both legs of the HT are like the second leg of the HCT (if that makes sense). I also believe the PT (second AKC test title) and JHD are similar.
In my experience...(general) AHBA seems more relaxed in some sense. Dogs can nip at the sheep a little to get them moving, you can handle the stock yourself in the HRD style courses.
