Back and spine problems are big in this breed..
I'm going through a similar thing with my female.. One of her signs was holding up her left rear hind leg, stiffness in her front legs, not wanting to walk up the steps and had trouble jumping into the truck.. I too thought hips, as her left is supposedly mildly dysplastic and went to our regular vet.. who just manipulated her limbs and couldn't find any real signs of soreness, she could see her gait was off in the back.. prescribed something in the same family as rimadyl.. She also thought Lyme disease, but that came back negative as did the other tick illnesses. Couple of days pass and no real improvement.. And you could see how much pain she was in.. Took her to a neurologist, he did all his tests and boy there were a lot of them and also x-rayed.. Her diagnosis as of now is: mild collapse of the lumbo-sacral disc space w/ventral subluxation of L7 - S1. Problem affecting her lumbo-sacral nerve roots and cervical spine. X-rays show no osteoarthritis, hips and elbows look good. No tumors, infections or disc fractures of the spine.. The only way for a definite diagnosis is for an MRI, but the x-rayed showed enough for now..
