Default rash/redness between paw?

Lex has been biting/licking inbetween his right paw so I opened it up and it's really red. I've been putting some ointment on it starting yesterday when it started and it looks the same today. When the ointment is on, he doesn't lick at it or do anything with it. Seems to not notice it anymore(cuz i keep putting it on).

Think maybe some water from the grass stayed there when he back into his crate and its just a rash? I go to an expensive vet because they are really good but I don't want to spend 100-200 dollars for somehing that most likely is gonna go away on its own in a few days.

What do you guys think?

I have the same issue with Tessa! She goes to the vet today and I'm going to have them check it out. I have given her benadryl and that seem to calm it down. Good luck - I'll let you know what the vet thinks.

I think it may be the grass.. she has only had this since the grass began to grow and she comes in with wet feet...

I don't think it is food related - I think I would see the issue in other places besides her feet.

It may be allergies, I only found out my Stella had a problem with Chicken because she was licking and chewing at her paws. I would not leave this for to long as it can be very irritating to the dog.

I would also try wiping the paws off as they come into the house in case it is something outside.

That's a classic sign of allergies. Could be environmental or food.

That's the first place Gracie's allergies flare up - it is worse when the morning grass is wet. I give her 50 mg benadryl once or twice a day when they are bad. Good luck. Let us know what your vet says.

Well I am back from the vet and she believes that the inflammation and redness between Tessa's toes is an allergic reaction to the grass pollen. She really didn't think it was food and but I will keep an eye on things. I have steroid spray to help relieve the inflammation and I can give her benadryl as needed - up to 3 times a day if I think she is really uncomfortable. I also need to wash her feet off when she goes out in the grass to help get the pollen off.

Hopefully once we get past the worst of the pollen season, things will settle down.

Glad that's all it is; I thought so. I wipe Gracie's feet after coming in all the time and it seems to have helped.

I am glad as well. Tess is doing so well on the BB Salmon formula, I really don't want to try and find another food. I will have to be more careful about cleaning her feet. She really hates it, thinks the towel is a tug toy!
