Hello everyone, my two dogs were in for a normal check-up last weekend and I had them check on a small growing cyst on my 8 yr old GSD Mix. I noticed the tiny cyst in Jan 2017 but we were told to keep a watch on it as it may just be a sebaceous cyst. She did not mind it being touched and did not show any irregular signs other than her old age these days. However, the second time the vet saw it, she wanted to run some tests and determined that in fact it was a Mass Cancer Tumor (MCT) and took some blood to run tests as well.
I think it all happened in a blur and I can't remember EXACTLY everything that was said because I felt like it was happening so quickly and I was just trying to process it. I do remember her saying that it will "most likely go by the rule book", she will have it removed with a large diameter within the area and the recovery time will be slow. Blood tests are being run to also determine if she has any thyroid issues (she's gained 8 lbs from the last visit) and if she is OK for surgery. X-Rays will also need to be completed depending on the final test results to determine if it has spread to other parts of her body/lungs/etc? My husband seems to think she will be OK and that I, of course, am over worrying about the situation (or he may also be trying to be strong just for my support system)
I think I feel uneasy because I just don't know exactly what to expect... I always worry heavily about my dog's health and can't stop thinking about it. I have not received any further test results from my vet yet as it's only Monday... But I was hoping that maybe some of the forum community could help either ease my mind, give me some insight on their experiences, or just simply give me someone to talk to about this.
I wanted to also post a picture of her as a baby and her today with our newest GSD baby for anyone who'd like to see my "1st baby"
