Pano at 1 year of age?

I went to the vet today to get my 13 month old pup checked for a shifting lameness in the back legs. The vet told me that since he is already 1 year old, he doesn't have panosteitis and probably has either a neurological, muscular, or osteo problem. She recommended an osteo specialist, but unfortunately we've currently run into some unexpected financial problems and probably won't be able to see the specialist ($300 for a consultation, according to the vet).

Is this information about pano accurate? I'm just a little skeptical of her advice because she first started off the examination by telling me that my pup piddled when he greeted her because he's still intact and he was marking his territory, but his piddling has been a problem since he was 8 weeks old and I'm pretty sure that it's just excitement urination since he makes crying sounds whenever people greet him and pet him (his piddling problem is improving, but it still happens occasionally when he's overexcited).

Of course, I don't expect any diagnoses about my pup with this post. I'm just asking for more information about pano in general.

you can so have pano at one year of age -
still within the classical time frame
depending on the severity of the inflammation it can be barely noticeable or have profound debilitating affect.

it is self - limiting --- real Vitamin C complex and other anti oxidants go a long way to bringing him out of this.

actually pano can continue to flare up to 2 years of age if stressed or injured -

I've only been trying to treat him with glucosamine and chondroitin supplements right now. My pup's left hind leg got better after 1.5 weeks, but his right hind leg started hurting within 2 weeks after he stopped limping and it has already been 2 weeks since he started limping again. I'll definitely check out the vitamin C complex. Thanks!

My boys' last bout of pano was just at the 2 yr mark. He had experienced 3 prior. The last one was moderate to severe. I won't ever forget it as it hit him when my own THR was failing so not only were we limping around together, we were limping in sync, my right leg, his right front. That was the last one though. If the person reading the X-ray is not experienced, it can be missed.

Just wanted to offer my 10 cents worth of experience.

Mine was diagnosed with pano at 11 months. He doesn't have any symptoms and was having xrays for an unrelated issue. The pano showed up in the xray.
