SHE'S HOME!! :happyboogie: After 8-9 days on IV care with the vet, my WGSD girl, Ghost, has survived the parvo that affected her litter. She has left the vet and returned home to continue her quarantine with my breeder. I wish I could post a video here to show you all how great she seems to be doing!! Bouncing, squeaking her toys, and roughing and rolling with her two other littermates who made it home as well. Sadly, three of her brothers did not make it. I have learned so much about this horrible virus in the past month and will ever be grateful for the proactive and quick decisions my breeder and her vet made in order to save these puppies' lives.
I want to sincerely thank all of you who contributed your thoughts, suggestions, and support on my other posts concerning bringing this pup home and experience with parvo dogs. It has been touch and go since Thanksgiving, but I think in my heart I knew all along what the right thing to do was. We debated but have decided that Ghost will finally be joining our family at Christmas!! :dancingtree: (pending her clear fecals and clean bill of health from vet) She is still on plain chicken and rice but def has an appetite and energy to boot. So now I'm on to happily buying some toys and things she will need when she comes home, and researching dog food :hammer: (OMG...Lord save me) Other than that - my heart is literally bursting. Thank you all again.
I attached a pic of my girl - all tired out after playing with her 2 littermates
YAY!!!! I know this was a hard decision for you, but I'm glad you decided to follow your heart!
It's kind of you to support this breeder who's been through such tragedy -- from your posts, it sounds like she went above and beyond to try to save her litter. Parvo can hit anybody -- it may never even be known where it came from, since wildlife (coyotes) can bring it with them on a nightly jaunt through the neighborhood; even a delivery person can track it onto the property on their shoes. I've seen so many BYBs dump sick litters at shelters (in order to not have to pay a big vet bill)...it says a lot about her integrity and love for her dogs that she made a valiant effort to save them all.

I could not agree more!! I have established such a great relationship with her over these past months, and now even more so with all of this craziness she has been put through the past few weeks. I know she has a strong bond with all her dogs and it has never been about a profit to her - I know she has bonded with my puppy too and it almost breaks my heart to split them up after all of this, but I can't wait to hold her again!!
What a wonderful Christmas it will be for you and your family with Ghost joining in on the festivities!! I was so happy to read she was well enough to return to her breeder for care. Such great news!!:smile2:
wow that is amazing
it's sad that those 3 puppies had to go but you gotta be happy the others survived
and gotta say, nothing but respect to you and the other buyers who didn't pull out, and most of all the breeder
i know i would have definitely given up and moved on
