HOD prognosis; need input

My Rough Collie Cam has been dealing with a mid case of HOD for the last several months. He is 10 months old now. He still limps after mild exercise so I have to keep Deja pretty much under control when they are togeterh. His big knuckles are a little smaller but his front feet are still turned out. He sees a specialist once a month and her hopes are good for recovery. But here is my dilemma: can he safely live and rough house with Deja (she is intense) and go on long hikes and lead a pain free life? I don't want to keep dogs separately unless during her heats.
Is there a chance when I wait until his growth plates close (at 14 months according to the vet) that it will become permanent? My other option would be to find him a home soon where he can lead a calm life without the temptation of running wild with Deja or any other intense dog. This will prevent further injury. The difficult part is that he maybe be OK completely in the end and I give him up for no reason or it is in his best interest to be safe and rehome him. He sees the vet again next week and I want to have a serious talk about this with her. He is an awesome and also healthy, beautiful dog otherwise. Any input appreciated.

I've never dealt with HOD so I have no idea about it, but I would be inclined to keep Cam and see how he does. I think your vet visit will give you some answers though.
