How old is your dog? I had a dog with loads of allergies such as forage mites found in dog food and dust mites which would be similar to human dander. He was diagnosed at 4 mths old and the vet tried all sorts of drugs including immunotherapy, none of which seemed to work.
For the forage mites I ended up rinsing his food in boiling water - problem solved for free! For the dust mites he got a waterproof bed, all cushions were removed from the house and we eventually got rid of carpets completely. I would say by the time he got to 3 or 4 yrs he was pretty much fine. A large part of his problem was bacterial infection from scratching so we quickly realised if we could catch a bald patch or persistent scratching it stopped the spread of the irritation. We got a vortisoid steroid spray which we sprayed directly on to the bit he was nibbling or scratching and that seemed to do the trick. This dog was was at least 30% bald from irritation but after all the above he had a beautiful glossy coat and was scratch free.
It's a horrible thing for you and the dog to deal with. Good luck.
