Masturbation and other gross habits
Okay, this post is going to be a bit gross

It seems like every couple weeks I notice a lull in the noise in the house, look around for my intact male, and find him standing there in the middle of the room with his back arched, thrusting away slowly, and a huge pool of fluid sprayed all over the floor underneath him. Often he is physically incapable of stopping even if I put him on a leash and go outside for a walk. I've also seen neutered males exhibit this behaviour occasionally, though obviously without the disgusting mess.

He started doing this at puberty, but he's now almost 20 months old. Is it something I can realistically expect to decrease in frequency at this point, or do I have to look forward to mopping up these messes for the rest of his life?

My female mounted my male last night in the basement and humped him :( it was weird, she us a butch.

I've had intact male dogs my entire life and have never witnessed what you have described nor have found suspect fluid pools.

I haven't either but my friend's shepherd got so excited to see her that he sprayed all over the floor. As a note, he picked up his leg at 6 or 8 months, and he has a strong sex drive it seems like. Like my boy picked up at over a year and still doesn't all the way and he largely ignores females and doesn't hump. Her dog will trail any female and hump non stop. Has to be dragged off.

my last male did that occasionally. Since he was always in sight, I was always able to get him out on the deck. With him there wasn't the humping so much as just standing with his back arched, everything "on display", and an embarrassed look on his face.

There was no reversing the process once it started so I just put him on the deck or in the grass.

He did it periodically until a few months before he died. Thank God it never happened when we had company!

I have heard of dogs doing this.

Here's a thread from earlier this year.
