Default MDR1 Gene test

Has anyone done the MDR1 gene test that you can send out to labs for testing?

I was looking at doing this one

Test your Dog for the mutant MDR1 gene. Information from the VCPL at Washington State University.

I would like to know reliability before I spend $$$.

Thanks

Yes, that's the test to use - that university is at the leading edge of mdr1 research. I used the cheek swab test, I had a mixed breed that was a 1/2 mutant. The blood test will be more expensive, because you have to pay for the blood draw and shipping (and many vets will also markup the actual test), but would be the best choice for a dog that is currently ill because of an mdr1-suspect drug. The cheek swab takes a few days before they mail the kit to you, and then you mail it back - it's all done between you and them.

Thanks Lisa. I want to get this done before anything happens where my pup gets the a drug that could impact him due to the gene.

I had my aussie tested thru them she was mutant/mutant for the gene.

My new puppy, I'm going thru animal genetics out of Florida, I'm having a multitude of testings run, it's cheaper because I'm going for more..
