Anaplasmosis

Wolfie had a great visit at te vet today for his annual check up. The vet told me that he is in fabulous condition, excellent health, and I am doing a fantastic job with him. I was feeling very good about it all until she called me five minutes ago to tell me that Wolfie has tested positive for anaplasmosis. He is asymptomatic, so she thinks that we caught it in it's early stages. He has to start a 28 day course of doxy for 28 day and she said that should take care of it. Strange thing is that I only found one tick on him this year so far. I use flea and tick preventative on him, and I'm always on top of that. I loathe ticks!!

Good it was caught early. You may want to discuss with your vet flea and tick preventatives. She may recommend a different treatment.

it never really goes away or is cured..My dogs are chronic for anaplasmosis.

You'll never find the tick that transmitts tick disease they are so minute.

Mine at this point are not symptomatic..it's just 'there'. I have treated with doxy at varying times, with Masi this year I decided not to treat because she is not symptomatic.

The dosage I used is 5mg per body weight twice a day, I usually do a 2 month dose.

Once it's in the bloodstream, it's usually always going to just 'be there'. Because he's positive doesn't necessarily mean he will ever be clincal, it's the level of the infection that matters.

LisaT is my tick guru , she knows far more about tick diseases than I do..

My dogs usually test positive for Lyme's or erlichia we haven't gotten that one yet.
Normally I get the doxy from local pharmacy but I was shocked when they wanted $140. I ended up getting it from my vet for about $40
