Dew Claw Question

I noticed tonight my almost 2 year old GSD bitch "shed" one of her dew claws. I have never had this happen before with my previous shepherds and wondered if anyone else has had this occur. Maybe she might have broken it partially or some other not normal event took place but it's rather strange. The part which was barely attached basically looked like the entire dew claw but it was came off easily when I messed with it delicately. Now what is remaining, looks like a perfectly healthy dew claw about the same in length and a bit smaller in diameter. No blood and the "new" nail is hard.

The same thing happened with my parent's dog. She injured her dew claw, and it seemed to have just "shed" off.
