Does this tree have poisonous berries?
2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know what this tree is? I have included a picture of a piece of a low hanging branch I cut off and another one showing the berries that fall from it.

I ask because we moved in to a new house and this tree is hanging over our property line and has been dropping these berries the past few days. We have a 3 month old puppy and I'm afraid the berry could be bad for him.

no way ! Mulberries -- delish, nutrish , the only thing to watch out for is STAINING.

We had one in the garden as kids and we would go in under the tree to get the berries - come out with stained hair (all of us very fair), stained lips , stained fingers, clothing . Starlings , not aware of us , would be on the tree picking away right above us .
We were trend setters with the blue hair streaks.

Purple - mature , ready to eat. Red , not ripe .

I grew up in the suburbs but have been stuck in various cities for years, I guess it's obvious...

Those are mulberries. Get a second opinion but non toxic, birds love them, you can eat them but they are not the best.

Edit - Hahaha.simultaneous crossposting I guess

buy them at WholeFoods or any other gourmet / health food outlet in little trays and see what that will set you back.

Mulberries , as a fruit, may not be as familiar to many these days . The mulberry tree is a standard residential landscape tree , the umbrella shaped one . These are almost all sterile non-fruiting because the fruit does mess quite a bit - the stain is like squid ink purple and persistent .

Mulberries are far more common in Europe and mid-East , come in two varieties, the black or purple and white.
Being introduced to North America over the last 5 - 6 years as a new superfood.

used in Chinese medicine, and leaves the food for silk worm ! -- called "the giving tree"

Ask Granny about Mulberry Wine .

this is a product of one of the people I met through the "market" experience -- this is his line of superfoods and supplements Organic Traditions Black Mulberries - 100g/3.5oz.

In Russia we had the light ones, yellow or white, not sure of the color. Omg. Delicious is not the word. The dark ones to me taste OK.
