I put this in the Gunther thread, but right now I'm saying screw it. I need a fast answer to this question because it affects him now. The web has been useless in answering.
Gunther is limping pretty bad on his left leg. It's not his pano. I am allowed to squeeze bone, muscle, and tendon all over his leg and hip and foot. However once I get to the joint where foot meets leg it's bad. I'm alternating heat and cold and restricting movement. Will call tomorrow and make an appointment.
Will wrapping the joint to limit movement help or hurt?
I would say it would help. If there is no apparent outer damage then it could be a sprain, pulled muscle, something torn. You don't want him to put further stress on an area that is already under stress.
Thanks Pax, I can always count on you to reply I FINALLY found a site that described it as most likely a sprained ankle so I wrapped it. Now the fun of making sure he doesn't eat the wrap lol.
RICE- Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. SO put the dog in a crate, and wrap it for compression and to limit movement. On an acute injury i think to use only ice? I forget if ice/ heat cycles is good right afterwards.

Gunther doesn't use a crate, but believe me he's not wanting to move much right now anyway. I keep taking the water bowl to him to get a drink so he doesn't have to move. Then I put huge chunks of ice for him to lick. I believe it's ice for swelling and heat for pain, same as for humans. He tolerated the heating pad for about an hour so I was pleased. He does much better with the heat then the cold.
Thank you too volcano. I was going nuts waiting for replies. Seems like every time I give up waiting and do something someone comes and tells me I shouldn't lol. I wanted to be safe this time!
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
