Default Please help, who do I report this to!?

Hey guys, I have a gsd with EPI, this was a nightmare the first year of her life but she's finally doing well. So here is where I need help, I let the breeder know immediately upon her diagnosis, they gave me the cold shoulder and simply told me nope, not our problem, we don't breed sick dogs. Well low and behold they have bred the same bitch again and have never dealt with me again. Who do I report this to? This person is potentially breeding more sick dogs. They are an akc recognized breeder and schutzhund competitor. I need some advice on what to do! Thanks

I don't think that AKC would do anything for you. I had an EPI dog and by the time I figured that out, she was sick of hearing from me over the dogs multitude of health issues.

You could start here although it might get moderated as a breeder slam

I think it would be warranted though, they are continuing to breed a dog that has had an EPI pup, refused to accept a dog of theirs has EPI , and then just returned to business as usual.

You can't bash breeders on this board, even if it is warranted. The thread will be deleted.

Isn't there a website where you can report problems with breeders?

Looking back on your posts, it is fairly easy to see who the breeder is.

What are you looking to report? There is a GSD health database where you can enter your dog's info if you are looking for more transparency about health. You cannot have a breeder banned from breeding or registering dogs because they produce one unhealthy dog. Unfortunately the breed is so unhealthy at this point, if we all did that there would be no GSDs left. Hopefully they would take the diagnosis into consideration and avoid doing a repeat of that litter or very similar lines. Whether they owe you anything entirely depends on the initial contract.

well - even if the female produced one puppy with EPI, it is not reason to totally take her out of the breeding pool....if everyone did this with every dog who produced an issue, there would be no dogs left to breed. I would be concerned if the breeding of the same male/female was repeated. Where puppy sales are a business more than anything, people may not be as concerned about a problem puppy.

I know someone with an EPI dog....only one of about 40 pups produced by the dam. I know 3 people with EPI pups from the same male and different females...but that male was used over and over and some breeders are using females from a son of his with no qualms.

Sorry - they should not treat you as if you did something wrong - but assuming the female should never be bred again is not reasonable either. Not overly surprised though, have heard similar issues before....

So, excuse the ignorance (again ), does this mean that EPI is genetic then?

My gal has EPI and I've been told that one of the causes is genetic inheritance. However, it is not always genetic - some dogs end up with EPI following pancreatitis or blocked pancreatic ducts.
