Females cycles

I was not able to find much information on this but I was wondering if you get a female dog, do they have monthly cycles and how much bleeding is involved? How often does this happen and most importantly, does any bleeding happen if the female is spayed?

How do people generally deal with this, other than putting diapers on their dog?

Lord, help me be the person my dog thinks I am!

Perhaps every 6-8 months....my bitch goes into heat closer to every 8 months. The amount of blood drops are minimal in her case....she usually cleans herself...licking herself.

"A female dog is diestrous and goes into heat typically twice every year, although some breeds typically have one or three cycles a year. The proestrus is relatively long at 5–7 days (9 days), while the estrus may last 4–13 days, with a diestrus of 60 days followed by about 90–150 days of anestrus. Female dogs bleed during estrus, which usually lasts from 7–13 days, depending on the size and maturity of the dog. Ovulation occurs 24–48 hours after the luteinizing hormone peak, which is somewhere around the fourth day of estrus; therefore, this is the best time to begin breeding."

The previous two females I had which were spayed never had any bleeding.

My current bitch I do not put diapers on or anything similar. However, I do pay attention to any blood drops that she doesn't clean up herself....perhaps I clean up 4-8 little drops a day.

My current shep's estrous cycle is a non-issue basically EXCEPT making certain she does not get impregnated via the gentleman callers from around the neighborhood.

We went over puppy first cycle and now getting ready for second. First was a bit messy but not too much, we use diapers and liners while at hoemat night as our puppy is free to roam in the house and we do have carpets on upper leve and lower level of the house. She had no issues with diapers at all, we did change liners frequently as neccessary and washed piapers as well. She was pretty good overall, and we were very dilligent on walks to stay away from dogs that were intact. never left her oustside unattended. It is only about two weeks so not too bad overall.

i've only had one spayed bitch and no, no bleeding. My others were about every 6-8 months and they never have cycled together. years and years, never and someone posted a question about it like 2 months ago and I answered as such.

Guess who has two bitches in heat right now

anyway, we don't have carpet. All tile and hardwood. I just have to clean it up. It doesn't gross me out, my wife isn't thrilled, but accepts it. She married me, so apparently she has a high threshold for tolerating things she doesn't really like

For a good part of it the dogs keep themselves pretty clean and diapers aren't an option here. Not unless I want to deal with shredded diapers on a daily basis. I'd rather wipe up little spots occasionaly
