Limping puppy

My seven month old puppy started limping two days ago I took him to the vet they took x-rays and said that there wasn't any breaks or abnormalities. He refuses to put pressure on the front paw though an the limping seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any idea on how I can make him more comfortable and how to get him to put more pressure on it.

Did your vet offer any other explanations?

Great you have done an xray, however your vet should have advised you of other possible reasons and the best way to treat him? If your vet didn't I wonder if you should ask for a copy of the xray and take along to another vet for a second opinion.

I have had dogs start limping, sometimes they just temporarily injury their limps when doing things like jumping and land the wrong way, or run at and along your fence line so that they stop suddenly all the time etc.

I would keep him still as possible, no exercise, make sure he has very soft bedding and add some warmth to the area. If you aren't going to get a second opinion soon, do the above and see how he goes in a couple of weeks.

What did they X-ray? Did they take pics of his shoulders?

I would not be asking him to put more weight on it. I would hope he on some kind of anti inflammatory, and strict crate rest. If no improvement in 5-7 days, back to the vet.

I would first wish to ask a few questions..

How much does the dog weigh? Heavy for the age, light medium..?

Does the dog sleep on the bed and jump on and off..?

How long before the vet visit did the dog not put weight on the front paw ..? How long has the animal displayed limping total..?

What was the vets recommendations .. ? I would expect at least two..

Was the exercise anyway near excessive before he/she displayed favoring the other paw.. ?

Did you first check the dogs pads and in between, to see if there was maybe a bee sting or a small sore, or does it seem to be in a different location... ?

That would be all the questions, at this moment.. Hope he or she feels better, it's a heartbreaker...

My german Shepard (monte) weighs 63lbs. He primarily sleeps on the floor in my room but does sleep on the couch in my living room. Which he has to climb on an off of.

I noticed that he was limping on Sunday when it seem to only get worse as the week went on I made the vet appointment. They xrayed the shoulder an the paw because he would not put weight on it. The vet said it was probably a sprain and to keep him off of it as much as possible.

Because it's been so long ago, I am trying to remember. The first joint above the front paw of my male; "Maximillian Gruenvalt the 3rd." (nickname) went kinda limp and I was told it was; ligimentation. A weakness of the ligaments, maybe from a growth spurt as he was young, less than 6 months. The angle of the leg below the first joint was out quite a bit, but he got better pretty quick. Max photographed better then any animal I ever had. (pretty certain I still have that negative) He loved to run off lead in the desert, near a man-made concrete water ravine. Let's hope for the best... :apple:

if the xray shows no breaks then it sounds like pano. squeeze the bones in the leg that is hurting. usually dogs with pano will whine in pain.

mine had it around 6 months old. one day he was healthy and the next i could barely notice a limp (front left leg). few days later it got worst, got to the point he was limping severely. got to the point where he couldnt sleep at night because of pain so he just whined and whined. was lathargic and wanted to sleep a lot. gave him pain medication. lasted about 10 days. then he was back to normal and running full speed.

no matter what it is, if your dog is whining in pain i would get him some medication to help with pain.

Mine has pano now. It's painful for them and they do limp a lot. It goes way as they mature. I was told about 18 months. My puppy just turned 8 months.

when my dog had pano i use to massage his legs with
a towel filled with ice. i don't know if your dog has pano.
don't force your dog to put weight on his leg. what did your
Vet say about his limp?
