Plasmoma and pannus
Our 3,5 year old bitch has been diagnosed by a canine eye specialist with olasmoma, or an infiltration of plasma into the third eyelid. She's been misdiagnosed with chronic conjunctivitis since July and I've treated with cortisone and antibiotic drops with marginal success. Doc wants me to stop all meds should she develop into full blown pannus, which at this time she does not have. Does anyone have any information or advice with regard to either of thee two conditions. She's otherwise in excellent health. She is an indoor dog and we do not live in high elevation areas. Breeder has no other occurrences which is irrelevant anyway. Also have a 7 month old male. She is my 3rd shepherd, my previous two lived to be 14 and 13 years. Thank you for any assistance, shared experiences or information.
Yes - with plasmoma - and you would be better off seeing an eye doctor with no doubt in my mind.
With my dog she started out with Tacrolimus and a steroid drop, both, for 1 month or so, to get the plasmoma under control. Now, just one drop. I think it's been 7 years now and she's still on the med.
I fostered her sister, who had the same, and the drops were also effective for her, too. We saw an eye vet because her eyes were worse. Had my vet not done what he had done, I would have asked for a referral to the eye vet. It saves money in the long run, and discomfort for the dog.
