Possible rawhide issue

I am a new Shepherd owner, adopted Chai less than a month ago, she is about a year and half.

While taking her for a walk last night, I got locked out of my place and had to use my neighbor's phone. He kindly gave Chai a rawhide stick. I had no idea until today that they can be a problem to Shepherds. She was really going to town on it last night but I didn't notice if she left it or gulped it down. She ate fine this morning and pooped. I will scour the house tonight so see if there are leftovers, but I am doubting it.

My co-worker just told me a horror story of her Shepherd having surgery because of a blockage from a rawhide-like Greenie. I will NEVER give her rawhide again, not worth the risk.

What symptoms of a possible blockage, even partial, should I look for? :help:

Also, she loved the rawhide, any treat similar to it that I can give her that she may like just as much but that doesn't need supervision?

I never leave my dog unsupervised chewing anything. An alternative to raw hides I used was rolled cow cheeks from bestbullysticks.com. Completely digestible. I still take it away when it gets too small.
Had a bad experience with greenies. Never again.

Call me a sicko, but in the past when I have worried about if something has passed through, I've fed a few peanuts or a little corn. You will know when it's gone through their system. Lol.

I don't really think one little rawhide stick will cause a blockage. I guess it is possible. If you are really concerned," get her x-rayed." Let her chew on elk antlers or other items like that. Never let her chew anything un-supervised. Symptoms? Could be whining, lethargic, drinking a lot of water, etc... Like I said, if you are worried take her in and get an x-ray. (this is just my opinion) But I think she should be ok.

Thanks so much. She seems fine, has pooped multiple times since she ate it and was great on her walk today.

Glad it worked out ok.

Funny you bring this up....I brought our 10 month old a big rawhide because he has been doing so well around the house un-crated. Yeah that night was MISERABLE! Poor guy was throwing it up and had the runs and this went on alllll night until he finally got it all out. Sorry pup but never again will he get any sort of rawhide.
I give him those dino bones and big knuckle bones from Menards and I've never experienced an issue with those!
