Default FHO Surgery ?

My boy might have this procedure done next week for severe hip dysplasia. And i'm just wondering how many of you have gone thru this. How did your dog do ? What was your dog like afterwards? Can they still run ? Go upstairs? Jump in the car ? Play fetch ? Is it worth it ?

My GSD had both hips done, the first at just under a year, the second three weeks later. She went on to do Search and Rescue for 9 years. Had no problem running, jumping, swimming or going on long searches.. It is well worth it, the pain of bone on bone is gone and they do just great. She never had ANY issues with her FHO's at all.

I had this done on my dog, but only one hip. I don't think I would do two at the same time.

I wasn't planning on doing both, but the Dr. said it wouldn't be a problem. Plus I save about $1,000 that way.

I wouldn't care about the money. She could not walk on her leg that had the surgery for several weeks. A dog can still get around with 3 legs..... With two?? How are you going to handle the potty situation?

I could have gone with a couple of different ,cheaper surgeons but they are not Board Certified . A lot cheaper. But I went with the more expensive Board Certified surgeon. BTW

All I can say is good luck. At the time I maxed out my credit card but she was worth every penny. My poor girl was so miserable and in so much pain from just one side I just can't imagine doing two at once. Hopefully it works out for your dog.
