Default Please help/give advice

Hi all.

I have 2 German Shepherd boys who are 2 and a half. 1 of the boys, Zeus, has had a skin problem since he was about 6 months old. It started as a discharge coming out of his eyes, to scabbing on his face and it has developed to lesions and sores over his body. We have recently found information about puppy strangles but apparently that is only common in puppies (hence the name) and very rare in adult dogs.

He has been checked on numerous occasions for fleas and mites and does not have either. He has been on/off steroids and antibiotics for over a year and it has helped at times but it is terrible at the moment. The vets have done skin scraps and still do not know what his wrong.

The worrying thing now is that he also developed a limp in one of his back legs. We also found out that his sister from the same litter recently died from bone cancer which began as a limp. Apart from this he has a very healthy appetite and is a generally happy dog.

Has anyone else experienced these problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated as the vets cannot seem to help us at the moment

I'm assuming he's had a full blood panel done? If not, highly recommended it be done. It sounds like a possible autoimmune disorder. The vet needs to dig deeper beyond the surface of the skin. Whats's going on inside the body.

Sorry to hear about his littermate

I agree with Courtney that his blood values should definitely be checked if they haven't been.
Hopefully, your vet has not been giving Zeus any inoculations during this time as this pulls down the immune system more, and clearly, this sounds like the problem.
Western medicine vets are usually only taught how to treat the symptoms and not get to the bottom of the problem. Getting to the root of the problem is a Homeopathic and or a Holistic vets specialty. If you would like a list of "Registered" Holistic Vets in your state, I'd be happy to provide that for you. They would also be on board with getting you a Rabies shot exemption for Zeus in your state.
So sorry this is happening to your baby.

Please read through this thread and the success this person had with their dog.

I suggest you also see a holistic vet - in the interim get him on Bovine colostrum (40% immunoglobulin) by company called Proper Nutrition along with their other supplement Seacure (they have a combo one called Seavive).

Switch to RAW diet

See this thread below and the thread included in it (I think I linked it and is this persons original thread)
