7 month old GSD only weighs 49 lbs?

Just wondering if this is a normal weight for female GSD? Did we maybe get the runt?

these weight threads always drive me nuts...

It does not matter what your dog weighs - the number is of no consequence.
LOOK at the dog's physique! Do you easily feel/see the last couple of ribs? Can you see a nice firm back? Is the underline tucked in nicely? Is the skin firm and taut? Is the chest tight and firm? If no, dog is probably carrying extra weight. Go by the feel and look of the dog - numbers are useless. She will be what she will be - feed her the least amount she needs to maintain a good weight. Keep these dogs lean - you can't imagine what a difference it makes...

A well bred female german shepherd should only be 60-75lbs, NOT a huge 90+lb dog!

At 7 months old she still has over a year of growing and bulking out to do. So is 50lbs too small? No, not considering that a well bred female GSD may only be 10lbs heavier

Actually, the German standard is even less than that - 22 to kgs for a female, which is about 48-1/2 to 70-1/2 pounds. So a 7 month old that's already 49 pounds is hardly a runt!

Thanks guys! We had no idea and her dog trainer said she was done growing by now so I didn't know there was more growing to do. She just seems much smaller than most GSDs but obviously we love her regardless :)

My girl Elf grew a LOT between 7 months and a year and a half.

Finn did the yo-yo weight dance between 6 months and 2 years; every time we turned around he was five pounds different in either direction. As long as they look right the way qbchottu explained, then you are fine. Whatever trainer told you that she was done growing by now is silly, IMHO. The first time there was no change in height/lenght with Finn was noticed at his 2 1/2 year vet appt. He grew another inch in either direction by 3 1/2, but he was pretty much done growing after 2 1/2 years.
