Itchy+Chewing Help
Hey everyone! My boy recently has been really itching and chewing on himself -- to the point of where he's a little red (on his hind legs, mostly). We're heading to the vet this week, but I also wanted to ask what else I could do?
He's 8 months old and is Raw fed. I have recently read up on giving fish oil so I'm going to be getting some of that and some Vitamin E this week as well :) |
Probably environmental. I'd give him some benedryl(1mg per #of the dog) and natural vitamin C(citrus bioflavanoids or EsterC). Start at 500mg of the C and over a week up it to 1000/ split between meals. Then the next week give 2000mg daily again split it between meals. C is a natural antihistimine and anti inflammatory. Also supports the immune system. Coconut oil may be better than the fish oil or rotate them. I'd also give some local honey with a good plain organic yogurt(probiotic). The honey may help if it is environmental allergies. Do you even have 'local' honey in the key's?
Where I am, lack of humidity is the problem, but you may be dealing with trapped moisture in the coat so causes some irritation. Keep an eye on that, maybe some gold bond medicated powder will help if that is the problem. |
Thanks so much for the reply! We actually do have local honey, I recently found out :) Will try all of those out!

I hate allergies, always guessing/trying what may help. I hope you can get your pup's itchies under control. I would not let the vet give steroids, unless the dog is going so bonkers that you have no other options. Too many side effects when giving them!

Thanks for the tip (again!). They're not really bad at the moment, so I definitely wanted to see if I could do something more natural to help him out
