GSD with hot snout and head

Max my 3yo DDR-GSD's head seems warm and he seems to be scratching at his snout to a high degree. I give him Claritin every other day for allergies but this seems worse than normal. Any ideas? He doesn't seem to be in distress.

I would have no idea, maybe one of the breeders or someone more knowledgeable will come on here and have a suggestion for you. Hope that your boy gets better.

We had the same issue with our 14 month old GSD. By switching his treats and food to a high-quality, grain free formula, it seems to have alleviated the issue. We also gave him Benadryl, per our vet's instructions, to help ease the itching during the food switching transition. I hope this helps and that your pup gets better soon.

is this hot as in a "fever", if so you should be talking to your vet.

Max

Not quite fever hot. He eats a medium-high quality food (it does have corn but it is ingredient 6). I upped his Claritin to every day and it seems to have made the difference.

I have never heard of giving a dog Clariton, is this something the vet is having you do, and is the clariton you are giving time-released?

Have you taken the dog's temperature?

What are you feeding. The chances are that if Corn is in there at all, there are probably other ingredients that are just as suspect.
