Been to vet 4 times for itching! Please Help
 

Ok so Sasha is 3 now and for the last 4 months she has been itching so bad... Her hind leg started losing hair and was all red from the itching and chewing. I took her to the vet they did blood work and a skin test and said it was allergies and was getting infected. They gave her steroids, and hydroxyzine, and antibiotics for the infection. This helped a lot, the red went away (although it turned her skin a little dark). I changed her food to a salmon meal from Natures Domain at Costco and have been giving her the Hydroxyzine. We went back for a follow up, things were looking good. Well she started itching again, so we went back and they gave me benasooth and I have been bathing her once a week with that. Her itching wasn't as bad this time and her skin wasn't red. We went back for another follow up and things looked good they told me to keep bathing her and also told me to start giving her Fish Oil. I have been doing that for the last few days. She is itching bad again, and losing even more hair on her hind leg and its turning red again from itching and chewing. I don't mind going back to the vet but come on this is the 5th time! Is there anything I can do to calm the area down and help the red go away? Any other suggestions would be great! I feel bad for her! Also the benasooth didn't seem to do anything and it was $25. Ill put some pictures on soon!

Find a veterinary dermatologist. It saved us so much time and money with my severely allergic pit.

You have to upload from a photo site or facebook, but the images cannot be bigger than 800x600.
I would go with a limited ingredient diet or raw and give benedryl(1mg per dogs #) and stay away from the steroids! Humidity in the house helps as well. Dry air adds to the dry skin.

Also natural vitamin C is a natural anti-histamine/anti-inflammatory...start at 500mg and over a week or two up it to 2000(split the dosage between mealtime) Quite possibly, your dog has environmental allergies which can only be pinpointed thru lab tests. There is a new way to give anti-serum orally so injections aren't an issue. Ask your vet or find an allergist to help you. It is costly to have the tests run, but once you actually find out the cause, you can have this managed. I've read where seacure is very helpful in managing the problem.

I would also include bovine colostrum w/seacure along with raw diet.

The best thing is to see a dermatologist if you can. I've seen a lot of allergy dogs go through regular vets and they could not figure it out after running test after test with antibiotics and steroids. It will save you time and money in the long run.
