9yr old GSD crusty mucus inside nose?

Hi, can anyone tell me why our 9yr old Shepherd has started getting dried mucus up inside his nose? is this common for these dogs as they get older. He's never has this issue before and he drinks a lot of water.

No. Not normal. Vet visit is in order.

went to the vet that day, discovered he'd been stabbed intentionally by someone. he didn't make it. kids are heart broken as well as us. My safety and security friend is gone. so angry right now
