Exclamation my dog got bit by another dog

At the forest preserve some idiots aggressive female boxer put some gashes into Berlins nose. He has a decent gash on the tip of his nose, and some scratch sized ones on the bridge. Is the E-vet necessary?????? Can this wait until my regular vet opens tomorrow???? Is this something that can be managed at home? They arent bad enough to need stitches, but they definitely will scar. Is bacitracin okay to put on it?? How should I clean this??

And don't even get me started on this guy and his dog. Berlin was behaving himself and simply was sniffing the female. Nothing else. The guy ALSO tried to tell me she didnt bite him?!!!! That it could have been from a thorn bush?! UM HELLO! It wasnt there before this! Seriously. I cant stand ignorant people, who dont want to admit that their dog isn't socialized right and is dog aggressive. Keep your dog away from other dogs then. He's lucky my dog is raised well and didnt even bark at this boxer even AFTER being bitten. And I know he was bitten for a fact. She was right up in Berlin's face snapping and growling before he pulled his dog away.

Angry

ALSO: is his nose going to heal normal? The gash is big enough to be noticeable. The black is missing and is all red and bloody.

***I have panalog. Is this okay to apply to his nose?

I had a same thing happen to my boy when he was a few months old. I used neosporin, it healed in a few days, after a couple weeks, a very minor scar, now you cant even tell, there was ever an injury on his nose.

did you get the vaccine info on this dog? His name and number?

Don't make a big deal out his encounter and get him back out there with stable dogs so he doesn't develop any fear.

If they don't need stitches, they can wait until tomorrow. You vet may or may not put him on an antibiotic.

i like any triple antibiotic. i also use betadine solution to clean out the wound. i always carry a betadine swab pack with me just for these occasions. i would wait until the morning and then decide if a vet visit is needed. no swelling or sign of infection, i wouldn't go, but thats me.

i notice a lot of dogs usually males will take out their anger/frustration on a pup, the dog may not have been DA just some dogs see an easy target if they are in a bad mood on the wrong day they will nail them because they know there is not going to be any consequence. Pups are often the ones that are victimized along with small dogs the most. Pups can bring out the best in some dogs like mine who seems to get in a better mood around pups and will let them take her ball and jump on her. But there are plenty of dogs still that will take out their stress/anxiety/temper whatever out on one. They might not be DA. Dogs just wont always get along and wont always be good with every single dog eventually a bite happens. She probably didnt wanna be touched. Some bitches are like that lol

Your dog will heal fine put neosporin in the mean time i usually put vetricyn? sp? on any wounds on aNY animal i have and it clears it up. Unless its a cat bite infection.

He said your dog got hurt by a thorn because he did not want you to report his dog he was scared for his dog. Put yourself in his shoes.

Although likely not pertinent now (3hrs later), if happens again, flush with warm saline solution 1/4tsp sea salt to cup hot water, bring to room temp.

Coconut oil is good for wounds and antibacterial and safe to ingest

pierce a vit. e cap and apply to the cuts - this will help with scarring and to heal...keep it up for 2-3 weeks am & pm

Thanks GatorBytes, this is helpful information in the event that this ever happens again! Ill try and get some Vit-E caps/coconut oil and put it on there.

I'm waiting until morning, and will see how it looks and call the vet and see what they say. They wont tell me to come in unless they really think I have to. I have the Panalog and have been applying that so far.

No, they were both on leash. I would never ever let my dog off leash at a forest preserve. God forbid he run into the forest or marshes and get lost. We were passing by this guy on the trail, and they both wanted to sniff. Apparently his dog doesnt LIKE being sniffed. Maybe he should not let his dog sniff then..

Yeah, the dog is vaccinated. He didnt even react to the bite really. He seems fine, in regards to being fearful, but he has class on Tuesday so I will see if he is acting strange or not. I definitely will still keep taking him out to places, but will be way more careful of other dogs...
