Unhappy Problems with Gas...the dog, not me. :)

Ok, it's not my GSD Rex, it's my MIL's Dalmatian puppy. He stinks BAD. Like clear out not just a room, but darn near the entire house bad. If anyone has smelled a draining abscess...yeah, that's kinda what he smells like. *gagging* He eats the same thing all her other dogs eat (Iams) and he's the only one with the problem. I know gas is natural, but there is nothing "natural" or normal about this. At least not in my experience with dogs.
He acts fine so I'm kinda sure it's nothing like a GI infection. I'm not sure what "human food" my MIL gives him, but her and my FIL are notorious for feeding the dogs everything and anything they eat and try to do the same with my dogs
Question is....what can I suggest to her? She brings them into my house for me to watch them while she works and I can't handle having him in here anymore. And yes, I have my sweater over my mouth and nose while I type this. Nasty dog.

Whenever there is really bad gas, there is poor digestion.
I would suggest she try another food.
I honestly only smell gas from Hans if he has to poo. Otherwise, nothing, thank goodness.

Iams is pretty low quality. Any chance they could switch at least his food?
It's not his fault he's got gas, poor puppy

Iams is the best she can afford right now, but I know it's not the best. And the poor thing...he tries to run away from himself sometimes. Looks at his butt and RUNS. I know its not his fault, I feel bad for him, that's why I'm asking what she can do for him. But at the same time...she just came and picked them up 1/2 hour ago and I can still smell it...half a bottle of Fabreze later. Even though it's 31 degrees out, I'm opening windows!

Check the food threads.
There are others with better ingredients at that price point.

I would have a vet check his anal glands - just to be sure it's not that.

Something about the 1st post made me think of that...OH draining abscess. Infected anal glands actually do smell that way. Kind of coppery odor instead the usual "fishy" odor. Sorry, I have a dog rescue and see around 100-150 dogs per year (other than my own) so have seen - and smelt - it all!!

Costco's Kirkland brand is comparable in price to Iams. May be a tad cheaper, I forget. BUT it uses no corn, and no soy or byproducts.
Also I think Diamond NATURALS is in that same price range, or "4health" at some feed stores.
Be aware that I've heard complains with Lamb variety foods making dogs stink, period, but when they have gas, that stinks too from the lamb.

If you can get them some charcoal biscuits or charcoal tablets (like you buy at the chemise for human gas problems) might help.
But yeah i would try a different food too and maybe have the vet check him out - that bad a smell is def. not normal.
