?? Pigmentory-eye (Pred Ace drops) ??

My german shepherd is 3 yrs. He always had a dark brown spot on outside corner of his eye. Lately we noticed the other eye has the same thing. Ansd it seems they are growing. One brown spot had almost reached the pupil part of one of the eyes. i did a little research on computer, looking at images, seems the most similar thing I've found to what my dog has going on is called "Pigmentory Keratopathy". AFTER reading , it desribes using eye drops to reduce and control the problem. The listed eye drops were Cyclosporine A (CSA) and the other one was called Tacrolimas. So when I went to the vet, the vet ddin't seem to concerned about the issue, and said just keep an eye on it. After I persisted, he persribed some drops called "Pred Ace". I haven't been able to find out much about pred ace. Does anyone know about pred ace? Does anyone have any recommedations or experienced anything like this w/ there dogs eyes? Also, what is pred ace usually used for. Any side effects, any problems it could cause. Possibly if we diagnosed him wrong, I'd hate to be putting the wrong stuff in his eyes. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome, thanks

I would find a canine ophthalmologist and get your dog seen there.

Pred is usually short for Prednisone or Prednisilone - steroids. You don't want to be using steroids if not absolutely necessary.

Ok, quick Google check found Predace eye drops - Prednisilone Acetate. It is to treat inflammation of the eye and eye lid.


Don't use them - go see a canine eye doctor!

I have seen many, many, many dogs with this type of pigmentation and I have never seen any problems come of it. I wouldn't worry about it and I definitely wouldn't be putting steroids in my dog's eyes for no reason. And yes PredAce is a steroid.

So, basically, you went online and self diagnosed your dog. Then you go to your vet and when he says it's not a problem, he finally prescribes some medicine to make you happy. Then, instead of asking your vet about the the med he prescribed, you come online and ask a forum of strangers.

So... why did you go to the vet at all?

Thanks Laurie and the gang. Freestep, have you had any of the dogs have the pimentation run into there pupil? blackthorne, nowhere does it say the vet said its not a problem. So if your bored or get your jollys out of stirring things up, please don't involve me. thanks
