Urinary issue

My 14 month old (Sergeant) always seemed he had to pee lots a few months back when he was on Science Diet large breed. My last GSD never had health problems and science diet was great. Now with having crystals in his urine they put him on Royal Canine (sp) urinary SO dog food. I think he has a sensitive stomach to treats and wasn't so sure it was his food. But want to see if anyone has this issue as Sergeant is so well behaved and was potty trained fast. He was playing with my 8 year old so. And he stopped and peed on floor. Vet didn't see crystals but she thought maybe beginning of UTI. So back on antibiotics. I want to see if anyone has any info to share that would help me understand what he is doing? Thanks all! :-)
