I am so ticked at the breeders because they didn't disclose this fact. One would think you wouldn't breed a line with red mange since it is hereditary. I am now going to get him neutered because I obviously can't breed him.

How old is the dog/puppy?
It's fairly common for puppies to have DEMODEX mange, but as their immune system matures they are able to fight it off. We use ivermectin daily as a cure, no dips. Demodectic Mange Sarcoptic mange is contagious to humans and any dog can have it. Sarcoptic Mange |

Is it localized or generalized? Localized usually goes away on its own. Ivermectin works great for generalized demodex mange.

It looks like the dog is around a year old..
How do you expect the breeder to know the dog has "mange" at a year old and why would it be their fault?

Demodex mites are passed between dogs ONLY while the pups are nursing on the dam. The thing is though, that most dogs have demodex mites. They are only a problem if the immune system cannot keep them under control. Then they start causing the hair to come out and secondary infections. Often as the puppy's immature immune system catches up, the mites situation becomes controlled -- no problems.
If it is generalized, then no the dog should not be bred. It may be indicative of an immune system that cannot manage the situation, other problems. If I had a dog with generalized demodex, after getting it under control, I would use Advantage Plus I think as that takes out demodex as well as the heartworm, fleas, etc., just as a preventative.

Maybe they mean they know the sire and/or dam have passed on the propensity for mange? I don't know. |

If it's localized demodex then you don't need ivermectin at all. In dogs under 2 years old it usually resolves on its own. It is very common! Rafi had demodex when I adopted him and I boosted his immune system and used a NEEM spray on the spots. It went away pretty quickly.

It is around his eye, some on his hind legs and paws. The vet said it isn't so bad now we need to try dips, we are using Advantage to try and treat it that way. The vet said that it is hereditary, so no breeding him. WHICH is what I was going to do...... One would assume that the breeders knew this is in his line, they had the parents and the grandparents (to different lines from two breeders).
