passing a stomach virus??????
 

well a lovely stomach virus has passed threw my house, we are still feeling crappy (lol). Last night poor lexie was sick as a dog, who says you cant pass a virus to your dog :eek: my poor baby girl.

I agree. My oldest dog always gets sick with the rest of us.

Unless you both have Salmonella or Giardia, it is EXTREMELY unlikely there is a zoonotic illness passing between you and your dog. Trans-species illnesses can be fairly rare. Most likely, it is just a coincidence. Because trust me, you would probably know if you had salmonella poisoning or a giardia infection.

There was one time I thought my daughter got croup from a dog with kennel cough but I am not 100% sure, because of the unlikelihood of that happening.
I think, too, it was a coincidence.

BUT immunocompromised kids can possibly contract it I think...a friend whose child has CF quit fostering, for her child's health.

Actually, you may very well have.

Assuming you have a norovirus, which is one of the viruses commonly responsible for intestinal illness in humans, there is a study that shows that not only can we pass it along to our dogs, but that the dog can actually get sick from it.

The cases where it is experimentally known to have happened, there were multiple (> 2) people, including children, in the house who were sick. In other houses where there were fewer people sick, the dog did not contract the virus. I suppose there needs to be a LOT of exposure for the dog to pick it up.

GI bacteria tend to be some of the most common zoonotic diseases that are passed, so it's possible. Campylobacter, e. coli, etc... But these tend to present with some pretty severe symptoms, just making it more unlikely. But again, it's possible
