Ivan is now a little over 7 months old and he has always been somewhat of a scratcher. He has never had fleas, has always been on oral flea & heartworm prevention. Right now his underside, the whole area of his crotch that is hairless is pretty red and irritated. I put some topical antibiotic ointment on it to see if that helps. Any home remedies or natural preventatives anyone uses? I have heard some things about coconut oil or olive oil. Any suggestions?

Yes to coconut oil - raw organic cold pressed (Nutiva is a good brand)...if you have some raw organic apple cider vinegar (bragg's well known)...make a 50/50 mix of acv and water, soak a cloth with it and apply to the area's hold on for a minute or so...the rub in the CO.
Do you think that maybe he is having a reaction to the oral flea/HW pesticides?

I'm not sure about the flea/HW med being the issue as he has been on it his whole life so far. I want to put him on Sentinel if/when it becomes available again. He is eating Fromm LBP which is an excellent food so I don't think it's that either. Maybe a contact allergy? I will try with the coconut oil, I'm assuming you put it in their food but how much & how often?
