Blood & Mucous in puppy poo
Hi! I have had my wonderful Sophie for 4 days now. She 8 weeks old, she just had her first set of shots and worming last Friday. Today I saw her squat onto a puppy pad and a few drops of blood came out. She also has really soft mucous/blood in her stool. I bagged it up for the vet.
I am feeding her what her breeders were, Kirkland brand food, and she's eating/ behaving normal as far as I can tell. I have a vet appointment scheduled for this evening. Any advice or things to look out for/mention to the Vet? Any tips or advice for this brand new puppy momma would be appreciated. I'm super worried. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

she may have a urinary tract infection..since your going to the vet this evening, hopefully he will have some ideas for you..

Giardia? Sounds like what my pup had when I got him. They treat it with a sulfa drug ( I believe) but the blood and mucus in the stool are symptoms of giardia.

Oh also, I think it's pretty hard to test for the giardia ( you have to do a few over the span of a few days) so i just went ahead and treated for it anyways. Symptoms resolved. Just ask your vet about it

Colitis but secondary to an infection in the GI tract, which could be anything, so yes, the stool sample is a good start.
Don't worry about giving her anything for the colitis. Treating the cause is what is necessary, not the symptoms themselves. |

I took in a stool sample and they ran it, said everything was fine. No parasites.
Vet said she has a higher rod count, and gave me some antibiotics and probiotics. To keep an eye out if she starts vomiting. The Vet said it could also be stress, and she may level out. It could be from the shots. They aren't super worried because she is playing, eating, and drinking. Luckily she has someone home with her majority of the day to keep an eye on her.
