Nail removal - return growth?

Anyone experience this? My Chinese Crested, Spike, went to the vet today to have a nail cut off. He had ripped it partly off playing with the pack.

I had two options - cut it off and see how it grows back or remove BOTH dew claws. Since I show Spike in the breed ring he can either have 2 front dews or NO front dews - but not just one.

I opted to cut the nail off so he didn't have to go under. Hopefully the nail will grow back without any problems.

Olek has torne off his dewclaws completely a couple of times and they have grown back with no problems. I can't say how fast the grew back since I was not really paying attention, but they look the same as they did before.

We see this in the clinic a lot and the nails generally grow back without issues.

Sasha completely ripped 1 toenail off. Came back a little lighter but otherwise no issues.

Thanks, guys!

The vet tried to give me some pain killers for Spike before we left the office. I said I didn't think he really needed them and put him down on the ground (after she cut off the nail and bandaged it). He immediately ran over to Mauser and started jumping on him. :)

WHAT pain?? :)

Phinneas had a benign growth under one of his dewclaws and we had to have it removed, he would run around, play and jump on the other dogs UNTIL he saw we were watching. Then he would hold the paw up and whimper. Don't tell me they don't know how to milk it.
