Excessive thirst and random limping???
An aquaintence has a GSD.... (I was going to help her bathe him 2moro, she is a little person...)
Posted on FB he is so ill she is frightened, and taking him to the vet. He is not acting right, and has now started limping on 1 front leg and 1 back leg, and drinking alot. Her FB post after the vet... when I asked if there was some kind of injury " No we just got done with the vet he says he's alergic to something and he has an infection where is groin and stomach is at he gave us medicine so hopefully we can get him well again" Am I the only one that this sounds TOTALLY wrong on  I responded that it doesn't sound right, and I would not trust that diagnosis at all, and recommended another vet... :( I am troubled. Opinions? |
Arrgh. Going to bed... hopefully things are OK in the morning. Worried half past sick about this.

Infections can make weird things happen. Does he have an abscess or something similar in that location?
She can also measure out how much she gives him to drink to get an idea of his input. If the skin thing doesn't turn out, then I would do blood work, tick test, urine test. Hope he's okay and glad he's got people looking out for him! |

My only comment is that if the vet's diagnoses is incorrect, maybe it's two different problems? FWIW my late Too had a problem where she would drink and drink and drink ... she was an H2O dipsomaniac ... it was like whatever body part controls thirst was missing. When she went to the water bowl, I allowed her x amount of time to quinch her thirst, then I'd take up the water for a couple minutes, and put it back down ... she very seldom wanted to continue drinking when I did this. Never did find out what caused this problem, she had it until the day she died. |
I talked to her tonight... the vet feels he is allergic to his bedding (they keep him in a run outside when at work, and got straw around his doghouse), he had a rash on his groin area, he has been itchy for a couple weeks, and they think he got a foot caught digging at the fence. She said his meds are working well, and he seems fine today.
I'm still trying to talk her out of feeding Beneful.... |
