SIBO is the abbreviation for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. This is the diagnosis that my GSD, Max, had and the Tylan worked for him. I placed him on a salmon-based kibble and the combination did well for him.

The side effects are awful. Besides suppressing your immune system, for both me and my dog - we both got really aggressive. I'm talking about taking them for 1-3 days this is what we felt. I felt like I could have a road rage incident very easily, and got insomnia. We had to take Molly out of any training or socialization for the week she was on prednisone.

So don't completely rule them out for immediate, short term use, but when a vet says long term - I think you are making the right decision not to use them.

For SOME people. I don't mean to be contrary, but I have a chronic disease (as does my mother) and I've been on long-term steroids before. Even big guns like Decadron. I had a dog years ago that was on steroids for 6 months (prednisone). Neither of us experienced any side effects, other than me (at least the dog didn't outwardly. He was great on them, low dose. Never had to do really high with him)--and it was after a week of 50mg of Decadron. I developed a slight nagging headache.

Steroid reaction is completely individual. I think it should be carefully considered before using, carefully monitored, but not everyone reacts badly. It's about a 50/50 split.

Yes in [I]rare[I] cases. But it's also a life saving drug that can be very safe. My point was reactions to ANY and ALL medicines and supplements, man made or natural, will vary. All can be positive OR negative. Just because someone had one type of reaction doesn't mean someone else will.
