Gas needs to be neutralized, this will bring relief to the pup - Activated charcoal will do this and absorb toxins that are making the dog sick. As well coconut oil is likened to and better then pedialyte and cheaper and antibacterial. Repairing the Gi tract is imperative to prevent toxins from entering the blood through reabsorption in the small intestine - slippery elm. OP - What is the surgery that is being suggested - exploratory? Why? Is this based on a gastro - specialist or your GP Vet (general practitioner)? Do you have the blood work copies?

Based on the fact that if there's a blockage the GI tract is shut down, which is why the vomit and diarrhea...it's trying hard to expel everything from it.
My point is, you can sit around doing home treatment or you can do the emergency surgery (if a blockage) that could save the dog's life. Playing home vet is risk-free at times, other times it's just downright dangerous. The key is knowing which time is which. |

OP - has coccidia been ruled out, bacterial infection, giardia, sibo?
How about recall on the food - salmonella - any trace of mold in the bag you may not have seen - moisture when opened - have you checked the expiry? Have you ever had gas? felt bloated? What surgery? Again - how does an acute case of vomiting/diarrhea (common on this forum) present into surgery - have you gone to a specialist?

Personally, I would take this pup back to the ER tonight. I say this because if it is an emergency situation then the morning will be too late.
I hope your pup is ok!

The advise the OP should be following and I hope they have, is to take that puppy to the ER vet asap.
Blockages are absolutely nothing to fool around with, time is of the essence. While advice here can be helpful, when it comes to potentially serious health issues, unless they have DVM at the end of their name, one needs to GO TO THE VET OR ER.
