Red eyes,sneezing,blood
Hello
We have a 6 year old female German Shephard. On Xmas Eve it appeared she was getting an allegy thought it was carpet powder so cleaned whole area. Next day eyes still red and now sneezing forcefully and small dropplets of blood came out. Vet in our area is closed till tomorrow due to the holidays does anyone know what this might be. Very worried. |
Blood coming from WHERE?? Nose?
It could be irritation from the carpet powder, if you used that. Or it could be a fungus, or any number of things...try to find an open vet. You could try a benadryl given at 1mg/lb of body weight - at 70lb. the dog could have THREE 25mg. tablets but check the dosage on the pills. And I'd only do that if there were no open vets. |
Just to clarify...was this acute after carpet powder was used? The blood vessels could rupture from sneezing and if the dust is caught up in all the little nooks inside the nose, then this will aggrevate it - the sneezing is to clear the passages...
You can try to irrigate the nasal passages with a saline solution - 1/4tsp of "sea" salt to cup hot water to dissolve - bring to room temp - use to swab the nostrals (just about a 1/4" or less) twist a strong tissue or thin soft cloth (white cotton T-shirt)....you can also use to wipe the eye area and as a compress - also and herbal tea or reg. black tea bag that has been steeped as a compress to the eyes to bring some relief |
Thanks
We took Max to the vet today and had some x-rays and were happy to hear that it was not a growth and there was no obstruction in the nose.
The vet says it's one of the worst cases of allegies she's ever seen. I appreciate the posts as we could not find anywhere to take her that was open till today (all closed yesterday as it's Boxing Day over here). Claire |
Glad to hear it's nothing serious.

i'm glad your dog is ok. i always thought Boxing Day was about
boxing (as in the ring, the sweet science). during X-Mas dinner i learned otherwise. duh. Quote:
